Couple Photos in Boulder, Colorado Set to the Perfect Soundtrack

Don't let their favorite song choice fool you — there is absolutely no shortage of love between Christian and Alison! Some couples bond over travel, food, or adventure — but for these two, it's all about the music. From the moment they wake up, there's always a song playing. Whether they're cleaning the house, working from home, or just hanging out together, music is the one constant in their lives — well, music and their two beloved kitties!

But what really sets this couple apart is the way they stay connected even when they're apart. They share a playlist, sending each other songs throughout the day as a little reminder that the other one is always on their mind. I mean, does it get any sweeter than that?!

How They Met & Why They Booked

When I asked Alison what finally pushed them to book a session, her answer was simple and sweet — they both agreed it would be nice to have real photos of themselves together, other than selfies. And honestly? I am SO glad they made that decision.

Now, let's be real — couples sessions can feel a little awkward and weird at first, so I always do my best to get things flowing by asking questions like how did you meet? or what dreams do you share together? Alison shared that she and Christian actually went to high school together — she was even friends with his sister! But it wasn't until two years after graduation that she got eyes for him. And since then? They've been inseparable. Supporting each other through new jobs, new adventures, and all of life's little dramas — and always coming back to the music.

Now I have to be honest with you — I had every intention of bringing my Bluetooth speaker to kick off couple photos in Boulder, Colorado with a little music, but I was rushing out the door, kissing my babies goodbye, and completely left it sitting at home. Classic. So we had Chris pull it up on his phone instead — and honestly? It worked out perfectly and set the best tone right from the start.

Colorado Weather, Prom Season & a Superhero Moment

The day before our session, we got a random spring storm and I was so worried about the roads. If you've read my other posts, you already know I do not do well driving in the mountains — and if you missed that one, the link is right here read here But if you live in Colorado, you know the weather has a mind of its own. I woke up Saturday morning to sunshine and let out the biggest sigh of relief, because I really wanted to use this location and I was NOT about to let a little spring snow ruin it.

When we arrived it was a bit cooler than I expected — but I always throw a jacket in the car because Colorado is always full of surprises. What I didn't expect was to pull up and find what felt like half of Boulder there taking prom photos — so cute, and honestly it made me realize that someday that's going to be me trailing behind my kids with a camera!

While we were starting our session I heard "no no that's not a good angle, stand up and move over here!" I couldn't help turning over and seeing a young man crouching on the ground pointing his camera up towards the girls. I asked Chris and Alison if it was okay if I offered to help and they said please help him — so I did! I honestly felt like a total superhero in that moment — nailed the angles, nailed the lighting, saved the day! ...Or so I thought. When I told Aaron about it later, he looked at me and said, "Rachel, you probably made that guy feel awful — he was trying to impress those girls and you swooped in."

And now I feel terrible. I genuinely hope I didn't become "that annoying photographer lady who made me feel dumb" for the rest of his prom night. My intentions were SO good, I promise!!

The Session — And That Outfit Moment

Anyway — back to the actual session! The sun was still peeking out from behind the mountains and we got the most beautiful light. And can we talk about Christian and Alison's outfits for a second? As a photographer I get asked all the time what colors photograph well, and I always suggest neutrals, creams, and browns — but when they arrived I was so impressed because their outfit choices just worked and fit them perfectly. So here is my little tip for you — you can always take my suggestions, or you can show up in something that feels like you. Because when you choose something that makes you feel confident, it shows in the way you move during your session — and Chris and Alison were the perfect example of that.

Once they started feeling confident and relaxed, that's where the magic really happened. One of my favorite things about this session was how much they giggled. Every time we switched to a new pose they just laughed their way into it, and honestly I was laughing right along with them! We got so many photos of them just cracking up together, and watching the way Alison made Chris feel so at ease and confident was the sweetest thing to watch. They hadn't seen each other in a few days, so when they showed up to the session you could just feel the excitement between them. That energy makes my job so easy and so fun.

When It Feels Like you

We also did an outfit change and pulled out an iPod — and it felt so perfect for them! They really wanted to bring their love of music into the session and I think that's what made this one so special for me too. It was a creative outlet and it just felt so them. They didn't want something stiff or posed or fake — they wanted it to feel authentic to who they actually are as a couple. And that is honestly what makes couple photos in Boulder, Colorado so special to me. Every pose didn't really feel like a pose at all — it was just the natural way they talked and moved with each other. And that right there? That's exactly why I love couple sessions!

As the sun started setting and the wind picked up, we got our final shot and honestly — we were all ready for some food at that point! We said our goodbyes, and as I drove home I just kept thinking about how glad I was that they decided to book this session. Because someday they're going to look back at these photos and remember that they chose each other every single day. And when they're apart, the music will always keep them connected. And that? That is just the sweetest thing ever.
